While
I've seen squash players wearing goggles, I've never seen any badminton player
doing so.
However as stated, some unlucky badminton
players do bear severe eye injuries and have to surrender the game forever. For
such players if they have worn a protecting goggle, it would have avoided them
a lot of suffering.
I
wear regular plastic spectacles while playing and on a few times I was hit on
the face with my partner's racket. I suppose lacking my specs, I would have
hurt more. Obviously the goggle would have been more protected.
My
ex-neighbor who has gone through a permanent injury to his left eye, I think,
did not wear goggles while he played. He has given up badminton for good.
Last week, my girlfriend
has been hit between her eyes because the opponent was a beginner, had the
strength but wasn't able to control his smashes.
You
can visualize how hurting it can be to get a full bang on your nose..
So
it needs to be a habit-forming behavior like when we will all the time wear a
pair of shoes while playing. They say "Prevention is better than
cure".
As
far as its cost is concerned, I don’t think this is a big issue. If you like
something, don’t think much about its price. If you have a limited budget, you
can go for non-branded products.
